Markham Vineyards – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Looking for a historic place with genuine hospitality and great wines? Then look no further and keep reading below. Bonus: I'll be sharing my experience on the tasty sips and chips pairing.

It was a scorcher of a day in St. Helena with 100+ degree weather (no exaggeration) but did that stop this wino?! Nope. This day was extra special because I was joined by my cousin, Teresita whom I haven't been tasting with since I started this wine blog! (over a year now)

ABOUT MARKHAM VINEYARDS

I first heard about Markham Vineyards from Instagram when scrolling thru my feed and remember thinking I've gotta go check out this sips and chips tasting before the end of summer. However, to my surprise this winery has been around a loooong time, like founded in 1874 long. During the tasting I also learned that they are known for their Merlot among other common varietals found in the Napa Valley.

FOUR FUN FACTS

  1. 4th oldest winery making wine to date in Napa.

  2. 4th wine house of making merlot

  3. 4th winemaker (current) at Markham is....

  4. also the 4th female winemaker of Napa County: Kimberlee Nicholls.

THE TASTING

To begin, a special shout out is in order to our host: Sophia - she was super hospitable and is the reason I'm able to share so many facts with you! I highly recommend requesting her if you stop by and love asking vino questions.

We tasted inside rather than the patio out front to stay cool. This was honestly great because there were so many cute art paintings inside and I could not help but admire them during our tasting. Fun fact: Markham will be remodeling the inside tasting room by the end of year to create a modern and updated look. Their sister winery, MacRostie is beautiful so I'm sure it will also be stunning.

SIPS AND CHIPS EXPERIENCE

Below are the wine and chips pairings recommended and in my personal favorite order:

  1. Malbec: Dill Pickel - amazing combo

  2. Merlot: Salt + Pepper - absolutely delicious

  3. Rose: BBQ - so good

  4. Chardonnay: Cheddar - wouldn't mind passing on this one, respectfully.

These wines are rich in history and very affordable for Napa Valley. Any level wine drinker would be happy here especially if you're just starting out, you should taste here for a dynamic portfolio of classic Napa Valley wines.
