Modicum Extra Brut – 94 points
Updated: Jun 22, 2021
Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to dine at The French Laundry? Me too. Interestingly enough you can now get a sip of what it’s like to dine at the famous Napa Valley restaurant. “The 2015 Modicum is an Extra Brut made of 100% Chardonnay created in a special relationship with the celebrated Chef Thomas Keller of the French Laundry in Yountville, CA.” The source: Shramsberg Vineyards. Read below for my tasting notes:
Vintage: 2015
Alcohol percentage: 12.4%
Appellation: North Coast (54% Napa, 46% Sonoma)
Appearance: medium intensity, gold in color.
Nose: medium intensity, with secondary aromas.
Sweetness: dry
Aromas and flavors: crisp apple aromas, pear and toasty flavors.
Conclusion: good wine
Price: $60.00
Food Recommendation: Oysters or Ceviche would pair lovely with this crisp, sparkling wine.
Conclusion: buy this wine if you prefer a dry and crisp sparkling wine versus a sweet one. You can purchase this wine from Schramsberg’s website or directly at the Davies tasting room in St. Helena, CA.
Bonus Tip: If you buy this wine, you will be helping out restaurant staff impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as Schramsberg will be donating 10% of its proceeds from this wine to Feed it Forward, the Keller Restaurant Relief Fund.
Wine rating: 94 Points
*Any wines rated 90 points or more, I recommend. Wines rated 89 points or below means it’s an acceptable wine, but I wouldn’t spend your money on it.*
